RockMass, a consulting company in Engineering Geology and Rock Engineering
The owner, Dr. Arild Palmström, took his Dr. scient. degree in 1995 at the Oslo University, Norway on rock mass characterization, for which he developed the RMi system for application in practical rock engineering. His wide national and international consulting experience in the fields of engineering geology and rock engineering includes:
• Hydropower plants
• Road and railway tunnels
• Sub-sea tunnels
• Unlined pressure shafts and pressure tunnels
• Underwater tunnel piercings
• Oil storage rock caverns
Much of the consulting works have consisted of:
· Planning and follow-up of field investigations
· Engineering geological mapping
· Evaluations of ground conditions from:
- analyses of geological information and its impact on rock excavations
- interpretations of aerial photographs, and
- derivation of results from field investigations
· Design of tunnels and caverns
· Planning and follow-up of grouting for sealing of rocks
· Special evaluations connected to disputes
Dr. Palmström has more than 40 years experience from planning, design and follow-up of rock excavation works, and has worked in various countries, including Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Turkey, China, Chile, Italy, Ethiopia, Angola and India.
